Once the game has installed on your PC and you have watched the cinematic movie which lasts just a few minutes, you will find yourself looking at the character screen. It is here that you will create the character you will play with in the game. As you can see, there are 10 diverse races available to choose from. It's a good idea to take some time and just mess around with the look of the different races. You will find you can change a variety of features which vary depending on the class and sex you take. It is also important to remember that there are 2 distinct sides which you can choose from:
Alliance - Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome, Draenai
Horde - Orc, Undead, Tauren, Troll, Blood Elf
It is true to say that most people will start on the Alliance side. The good looking side. Blizzard made a good looking race for the Horde side with the Blood Elves specifically to encourage more people to play Horde. I started on the Alliance and have stayed Alliance ever since. Another point that needs to be made is that the two factions cannot communicate with each other. They are natural enemies and on a pvp server you will be killing them, not having a chat with them!
From personal experience I can recommend:
Night Elf - female
Dwarf - male
Draenai - female
I like the way the above races move, look and feel.
